WHY YOU ONLY NEED 3 STEPS IN YOUR SKINCARE ROUTINE

Think you need a complex 10-step routine in order to achieve great skin? Think again!

While many in the skincare industry would have you believe more is more when it comes to taking care of your skin, I’m here to tell you they’re all selling you a lie.

 

Your skincare routine doesn’t have to be complicated. In fact, the simpler the better! An easy, streamlined routine you’ll happily commit to everyday is always the goal - and it means your skin will respond more quickly to your new regimen.

 

In fact, having too many products and steps in your skincare routine is actually really harmful for the skin and can lead to a plethora of skin problems. Conditions such as dermatitis, rosacea and the dreaded periorificial dermatitis are more often than not caused by what I like to call cosmetic overload, or cosmetic confusion and cosmetic chaos. When the skin becomes overloaded, it’s natural response is to freak out and become inflamed, which is definitely something we want to avoid.

 

So, how many steps is ideal? My magic number is 3.

Because if you have the right ingredients in the right concentrations combined in a few effective products you don’t need to over do it!

Three in the morning, three in the evening. Quick, easy and simple.

 

STEP 1: Cleanse

It’s important to cleanse both morning and night. In the morning, we are preparing the skin so it can properly absorb all of the delicious product we are about to apply. In the PM, cleansing is crucial to ensure we properly remove makeup, dirt and oil, while minimising environmental ageing caused by stressors like pollution.

 

If you know me well, you’ll know I’m a big fan of not overdoing it when it comes to cleansing. This is why it’s SO important to pick a cleanser that will not strip the skin of its natural oils. This means NO foaming cleansers, NO beads, NO scrubs, and NO soap. My CONCENTRATED CLEANSER contains our superhero ingredient niacinamide, also known as vitamin B3, along with vitamin B5, vitamins C and E, oat and licorice extract and my favourite humectant glycerin, as a moisture binder. STEP 2: Serum

At DrNC we like to make life easy, which is why I created two go-to serums - one for the morning and one for the evening. They both contain all the essential skin-enhancing ingredients you’ll ever need and they’re super easy to use. Separated into all your cell renewing and cell exfoliating ACIDS. The other combines the essential antioxidant, skin worthy vitamins: B3 (aka niacinamide) Vitamin C, E with hyaluronic acid and peptides.

The clarifier contains a unique 18% alpha hydroxy acid (AHA) and beta hydroxy acid (BHA) blend, that fights all six of the major skin concerns - anti ageing, pigmentation, dehydration, acne/congestion, sun damage and sensitivity - by encouraging cell turnover, evening out skin tone and deeply exfoliating and decongesting pores. It contains a highly effective 13% AHA combination cocktail of lactic, glycolic, mandelic and tartaric acids, along with 5% salicylic acid to fight breakouts/congestion.

STEP 3: Moisturiser

Now it’s time to seal the deal and hydrate the slate. It’s a fundamental fact that hydrated skin outperforms dry skin any day of the week! It’s essential if you want to have good looking and high functioning skin! Plus, it’s the key to preventing and treating common skin concerns like acne. How, you ask? Well, moisture seals and strengthens your skin's epidermal barrier, which reduces sensitivity, ageing and further skin damage. Moisture activates your natural cell exfoliating enzymes in your skin, which in turn helps you produce fresh new cells (making you look younger), while preventing breakouts and congestion. Plus, moisture prevents eczema and loads of other skin irritations and concerns, including dermatitis and acne and rosacea.

 

I have two moisturisers, my CONCENTRATED MOISTURISER+ and the more intensive night treatment CONCENTRATED HYDRATION+. STEP 4 The Exception to the Rule of 3’s : SPF

Ok, so there is one extra step for the day time, if you’re heading outside into the sunshine - your SPF. It’s crucial you wear an SPF30+ product in order to adequately protect your skin against skin cancer and also harmful UV rays, which are the biggest cause of ageing and pigmentation. It also MUST be an SPF specific product, NOT just thrown into your moisturiser. A moisturiser or foundation with SPF will not offer you adequate protection - trust me!

 

My CONCENTRATED CC+ CREAM is a tinted SPF30+ physical sunscreen, meaning it features chemical-free, physical UVA/UVB blockers zinc and titanium oxide, and is also boosted with 5% niacinamide/vitamin B3 for added environmental protection. Remember, protection is better than a cure!
